Shazam is a mobile application that recognises music and TV around the user. Originally developed in 2002, the app uses a phone’s built-in microphone to gather a brief music sample and then compares it to a vast central database. Shazam expanded beyond music identification into the TV Sphere in 2012. Shazam allows users to "tag" TV shows (tag it the same way you’d tag a song, by opening the Shazam app and tapping the big button). Shazam will then provide cast information, trivia live twitter feed, etc. Shazam is headquartered in London, but maintains offices in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Menlo Park, San Diego, Seoul, and Sydney. As of 2014, the company has raised approximately $141 million in total funding.
EquityZen does not have an affiliation with, formal relationship with, or endorsement from Shazam or any companies featured above.
