Kik was founded in 2009 by a group of University of Waterloo students. Based in Waterloo, Ontario, the company now has 100+ employees working on the chat app that connects users with people, services, and businesses. Kik has raised $220.5M to date. Its VC investors are the same firms that first helped Twitter, Foursquare, Zynga and others become household names. China's Tencent, maker of WeChat, is also a strategic investor.
